Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is an effective and safe way to relieve dental pain and save your teeth. This treatment is recommended when the pulp of a tooth is inflamed or infected. If left untreated, the chronic infection in the bone may affect overall body health.
The pulp is the innermost part of the tooth that contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue. The pulp creates the surrounding hard tissues of the tooth during development.
The inflammation or infection may have a variety of causes: deep decay, crack, chip, or injury in the tooth, repeated need for dental procedures on the tooth.
The process involves removing the infected or injured tissue (pulp) from inside the crown and roots of a tooth.
The dentist carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the root canal, then fills and seals the space with an inert material that decreases the chance of re-infection. A crown will be placed on the tooth to strengthen, protect and restore its full function.
